I own this game, love it and really felt I needed to come to its rescue, as I feel it is being unfairly punished in the reviews so far. I should add that I have 2009 too along with many other winter sport titles. It is a title that a friend and I have been playing a lot of this winter and enjoying.

Having read what others have had to say, I agree about the lack of fit board control, although having seen some other implementations this year, that might not be such a bad thing. Some other titles use of the board feels very unnatural to say the least.

While I agree about the fit board, I really don’t agree at all about the inference that the controls are difficult to use, or memorise. The controls are actually dead simple and really quite natural. In fact if you learn the controls for one sport, they are pretty similar for the rest and actually are almost identical to other winter sport titles out there this year (Mario and Sonic, Activisions Mountain winter sports and so on).

The graphics are pretty good, though I find the environment depicted feels very stormy, overcast and dark a lot of the time. It would be nice to have some sunshine in the cut scenes (its a personal feeling and probably unimportant).

Of the sports themselves, the bob is one of the better ones I have seen this year in any of the titles, but to my mind it doesn’t have the feel of enough speed, which is a shame because in every other area I think it does a really good job. The skiing is also well done and probably my favourite implementation in the titles available this year. A nice long run with some challenging bends. Biathlon “is” a little odd to control when skiing, but still has a real challenge when shooting.

I have never really taken to skating in these games, but surprisingly I found I really enjoyed the racing in this one. My favourite sport of all in this title though is the ski jump, or flying as it seems to be refereed to these days. Both my friend and I find we are really getting into this one. Top marks I think.

The last thing I would add is that the title isn’t really a complete simulation. It has some arcade like features to my mind (power ups and so on). So if you are looking for a sim to accompany the fervour of Whistler this year, this might not be your best bet. If on the other hand if you want a really entertaining addition to your winter game library then this is a good one in my opinion and is getting an unfair beating in my opinion.

This is a game that I would have expected to have embraced all types of users and the current accessories – no use is made of the Motion Plus accessory or worse the Wii Fit Board. To me, that is the serious flaw of this game as the game requires balance and what better tool than the Wii Fit Board.

Which ever sport you play, the easy mode is difficult requiring great anticipation and reflex action. I’d say I was an accustomed player of many types of games. Either the controls were either insensitive, over sensitive or confusing to get accustomed to. The tutorials are not tutorials per say, they are a ‘how to…’ use the controls, they provide no advice on how to do the sport, what to look out for or how to improve. The ‘tutorials’ are not tailored to the experience level you are on displaying expert actions for the novice. There is no ‘training ground’ for any of the sports where a ‘coach’ could give you advice, the game expects you to hone your skills in ‘competition’ where no advice is given. You can’t control the weather so as you descend there are fog patches making it difficult to anticipate, making it hard for the novice.

The only series of cups I’ve attempted is the Rookie. In this, the games does not allow you to customise the AI so you end up competing against ‘Normal’ AI players very early on. As mentioned even ‘Easy’ is difficult. Just after loading a Cup, the intro is needlessly long with no option of skipping seeing the AI players refusing to have their photo taken or talking to journalists.

I’ve played this game now for a total time of 90mins with little progress and so disappointed with it. I’ve not been able to get to grips with the game or how to use the controls effectively.

We had bought this one as we thought it was next in line to Winter Sports 2009; that one was balance board compatible. This one is not. Drat!

After a few days I find I still spend more time trying to memorise the controls than playing, which already puts me off inviting a friend over to play it as it takes long to learn.

The graphics are awful, with the mountain snow often flashing on and off.

More time could have been taken on this game.

If you really want it, wait a little while and you’ll probably get it for under a tenner.

I’m going to rent games by post from now on before I buy and save some pennies.

The game arrived very quickly and is OK but the big let down was that winter sports 2009 is compatible with the wii balance board but for some strange reason winter sports 2010 is not so a bit disappointing so future buyers beware.

The only adverse commet i can make is that its not compatable with the Wii balance board.

Other than that good all round family fun.

This realy is a very cool game, a lot of fun, characters to cusomise and re-name, practice action and carrear mode. For begginiers or just good fun, bob-sled can be, only general stering is mainly needed for bob-sled.

Supprisingly or not, the Wii Wheel can make a big difference, even when doing the ski thing.

This is a quite fun game that could be considered as being quite inspiring? A great game for the family or anyone young at heart, child-like but not child-ish? Good fun with some of the courses looking better than you might have thought before seeing them… ?
