Heatseeker is a decent diversion of your time, but it’s not the type of game that will go down in history as a classic. The controls can go from awesome as you fly around with ease picking off hudreds of enemies, to frustrating as the cursor leaves the screen and you struggle to redirect your aircraft before plumeting to your death.

The game is simple, decently interfaced and exciting in heavy combat, but the criminal non-inclusion of multiplayer or even online dogfights will be this game’s big downfall for years to come. It would have been a five star game easily had this been included.

On it’s individual merits however, it is an enjoyable game, well implemented for the Wii remote, but can be occassionally frustrating when the controls fail you.

Heatseeker is not a flight simulation game it is a shooter, pure and simple. Control and game play wise it is fairly similar to the original Rogue Squadron on the N64, which is a good thing as that was a great game. The levels are as varied as a game involving jet planes allows but that doesn’t seem to matter as it is just so fun to play you won’t really care that the objectives for each mission vary very little. The main thing is that you have to blow up lots of enemies, and when I say lots, I mean lots and lots. And as you progress through the game you’ll be able to gain a little extra variety from all the different jets that you’ll be unlocking.

The Wii controls for this game are pretty smart; they are responsive and on the whole fairly intuitive meaning that you’ll never be struggling for control of the plane. There are one or two additional moves that you’ll have to try a bit harder with but there isn’t anything revolutionary going on here just competent accessibility. The graphics can be described in the same way; they are competent, even good in places but nothing revolutionary.

The main let down is that this game is single player only. There is no multiplayer mode, and the Wii online network wasn’t up and running when the game was released so it has no online play. It’s a shame because the game play really is good clean fun and would have been great on the multiplayer stage.

Overall this is a good game that you will have fun and excitement with but absolutely nothing deeper than that; once you have completed all the missions there won’t be anything to make you want to keep the game any longer.

If it is a realistic flight simulator you are after, then this game is in no way right for you. However, what it lacks in realism, it makes up for in pure, unadulterated enjoyment.

Most of the game is spent fighting a seemingly-endless amount of enemy fighter jets and ships, without much help from the few colleagues you have in the sky. It is, in a purely ironic sense, quite amusing to be blamed for the failure of a mission having just shot down 60 bandits yourself, while your wingmen sort of float about somewhere within the vicinity.

But it is the lack of realism and fast-paced action that makes the game so fun to pick up and play. It is, to all intents and purposes, a shoot ‘em up in a fighter jet.

The graphics are obviously not what anyone buys a Wii for, but Heatseeker is pleasantly surprising on that front, without being jaw dropping.

The controls are sound, although, as has been mentioned, the cursor will occasionally disappear off the screen, leaving you hurtling towards an impressive, albeit untimely, end to the mission. But it’s a rare occurrence and, after a while, you will become a bit more adept at the controls.

It is only a single player game, which is not always an ideal Wii purchase, as the console is clearly aimed more at multi-player titles. But, for anyone with a Wii, it’s one of the few single player games about that is probably worth considering.

Boasting an impressive range of ships to fly, weapons to fire and enemies to blow up – really, need I say more?

Well, yes, I suppose, some things should be cleared up. First of all, the controls: what with so many Wii games struggling to get the most out of the Wii remote without being fidgety or gratuitous, I’m happy to note that Heatseeker gets it more-or-less right. You may (as I did) struggle a little to get to grips with steering, but once you do you’ll find it handles pretty well. Happily, aiming and firing is a piece of cake. The difficulty curve is spot-on, the enemies come at you in ridiculously large numbers and the feeling of taking out one or all of them is always satisfying.

Secondly, the graphics: though not spectacular, the graphics are clear and functional enough for you to forget about them if you, like me, don’t actually care that much. There’s a very nice impact camera that sometimes, at random, activates itself after you destroy an enemy, giving you a very nice Hollywood-style view of the carnage you just created. If you’d rather not have that interruption while you’re playing, or you grow bored of it, it can be turned off and on at the menu.

Thirdly, the story: it’s ludicrous, over-the-top, comically voice-acted and unimportant in enjoying the game…exactly as it should be, I feel. Cut-scenes are easily skipped and the story is easily ignored, but for what they are (dumb) they’re enjoyable.

Ultimately, though, I find Heatseeker an entertaining diversion, but very hard to get excited about. If you’re into this kind of aerial warfare game, however, add another star to my score and trust me – you will like this game. Sadly, it’s just not my cup of tea.

This is the Wii’s take on Ace combat, it’s a good attempt too. Placing you in the pilot’s seat you take on the role of a flyer of the International council (America), who are becoming concerned about the Federation (Russia) anexing oil fields in Antarctica. You are sent a Carrabien airbase, Lord Roberts Island. Just as you arrive rebels attack with modern fighter jets. You discover these weapons came from Vertana, a corrupt dictatatorship in the Atlantic. After engaging enemy forces there, who use a WMD on your fleet. You are scrambled to the southern ocean, where the Federation has set up a blockade. After a few small battles you engage their fleet. The WMD from Vertana is then traced to the Olargarchy of Kamcha (North Korea), this is your last port of call. You remove the military forces and free the population from government oppresion. This supposedly prevents WW3 for some strange reason, ending the game. Solid gameplay, but the story isn’t quite believable.

When I placed the order for Cars at amazon, I was looking for a small racing game. I know that the remote controller is not the best thing to handle car movements, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money just yet to get a racing game. Read some other verdicts for Cars and I thought, okay, I will give it a go.

DID NOT EXPECT SO MUCH FUN!!!! There are many mini games available, many (mostly race tracks) needs to be unlocked. I have been enjoying it since I got it last Friday, and have to say there is nothing bad at all about the game. It would definitely please the kids, but also the grown ups as well.

The only worries are the “2″ button on the remote controller. You use it as the accelerator and you know what we do when it comes to racing games! I am quite afraid that it will stop working one day just because I won’t release it during a race!

In terms of handling, have to say Lightening McQueen can be quite a handful. You will see me driving it in wavy S curves all the time, so at the moment I am waiting for my racing grip to arrive. Unfortunately McQueen is the only character you can use to win races and unlock games. Sally, on the other hand, seems to go much smoother and is much easier to handle. We are compaing an MX5 to a Porsher afterall so I suppose it might just reflect some sort of reality here!

There are different sort of games, once the mini games are unlocked you can race the different characters on different tracts, like the Piston Cup, off road tracts, normal road races, even a truck race. There are also mini games to train you how to control the cars, like finding tyres, pit stops (which is really funny!). There are just so many things that you will have to explore.

Definitely worth the money for less than 20 quid, and I think it will be a good build up before we come to more race like games, such as Need for Speed.

(by Jiordan 12) My mum ordered this game for me and when i got it i was so exciting. I love this game and it never ends one of the best games. The reason i am deducting a star is because it is quite hard to steer and my 3 year old cousin struggles trying to go around a corner because iit is quite hard to steer. Other then that itis pretty easy, and you can do the full size experience (for teenagers, older children or adults) or the small cars one (for younger children). I reccommend this game to any one who was lookin to buy it.

When selecting games for my grand-children, reading reviews helps me out. So the rating given is mainly on their enjoyment of the game. I haven’t been allowed much time to experience ‘Cars’ game for myself, but my 6 year old grandson plays it regularly and gets alot of pleasure from it. I was a bit worried that his slight learning difficulties would hamper him, but the lowest level is very user friendly and he manages the control of the car quite easily using the Wii wheel. He also enjoys just selecting a practice mode, driving on and off road, doing spins, raising dust and bumping into anything that moves. We are only gaming novices and are perhaps easily pleased. I can only rate ‘Cars’ game as we have found it and HEY!! even the gaming experts were novices once upon a time.
