I bought this back on the 2nd March 2009 and it’s now the end of June and have to say I’m thouroughly disappointed. For anyone whos interested Venom make some pretty good video game accessories, it was their Venom Wii Gun accessory that won me over and convinced me to by one of these. However this isn’t up to scratch.

It takes 4x AAA batteries… and with fair usage (about 8hrs a week play) The batteries won’t last a month. In the last 4 months I have gone through 12x AAA batteries (3 changes) – very expensive. Using rechargables helps but you will see the life cut pretty short before next charge, which is just annoying,.

Although it will power on with low batteries, the infra-red beams become progressively weaker – I had to combat this by turning up my Wii’s “Sensor bar Sensitivity” up to the max of 5, but only extends the usefulness of the current batteries by only a fraction.

The range compared to original Nintendo bar is shorter. I’ve been able to use the wiimote on the orginal for about 3-4 metres. The Venom bar peaks at just over 2m – but then starts to decrease to about 1-1.5 when the batteries are halfway through their life.

It’s gotten to the point where I only use the Venom bar when I’m taking the Wii away to other peoples houses as an infrequent thing – at home I use the oringial. It’s a shame and could’ve helped clear up the cables and wires behind my TV.

This is only really suitable for really occasional play and if you happen to be travelling about.

Was very pleased with product that I only had to insert batteries, turn on Wii, and was ready to use. Battery life is fairly good, I use rechargeables aswell. When playing games the Wii remotes can be upto 5M from wireless sensor bar also. Now the cat can not eat on any loose wire, which was on the original sensor bar.

Product works great on fresh batteries. I started out using rechargable batteries but they drain too quick. Playing the Wii 3-4 times a week you will run through a regular set of batteries. Unless you have no other choice buy a wired sensor bar.
